Eating popcorn for dinner might not have crossed your mind much. However, on those nights when you have little energy for making food, popcorn is a very versatile grain you can use to make some tasty meals in no time at all. When making meals that use popcorn as a base, remember that they are best eaten when they still fresh and warm from the oven.

Popcorn is more nutritious than you may realize. Firstly, it is a whole grain, not like some refined grains that have all the nutritious parts removed. Whole grains are packed with nutrients like iron, B vitamins and antioxidants. They are known to improve heart health, keep blood sugar levels stable and even reduce the risks of some forms of cancer. Popcorn is a great source of fiber that keeps the digestive system healthy.

Ham and Cheese popcorn

Place the popcorn on a baking sheet and add some ham and cheese. Heat until the cheese melts. It’s a quick meal that takes very little effort and your kids will love it. Just make sure you don’t include any unpopped kernels which could break some teeth!

If you use gourmet popcorn from Proper Popcorn in Knoxville, Tennessee which you can buy in different sized bags or tins, your meal instantly has added flavor. In fact, you can choose from more than 50 flavors and your kids will enjoy ones like Cheesy Ranch and Bacon and Cheddar.

Adam Johnson, Manager and Head Chef, says, “We are committed to quality and you will be delighted with our small batch craft popcorn.” You can pick your order up in-store or get it delivered to your home.

Pepperoni pizza popcorn

Proper Popcorn also has pizza-flavored popcorn you can use for this recipe. Instead of pepperoni, you can also use other meats like cooked bacon bits or cooked ground beef. All your favorite pizza toppings will work except those that are wet, like pineapple. If you’re using pepperoni, cheeses like Parmesan and Mozzarella work well with it.

Place the popcorn on a baking sheet. You can mix some butter with oregano and garlic powder and drizzle it over the popcorn if you use plain popcorn instead of the pizza-flavored one. Add the toppings and bake until the cheese is melted.

Bacon, chive and cheese popcorn

Cook some slices of chopped bacon until crisp and drain on paper towels. Toss the bacon and some chopped chives over the popcorn. Grate on some parmesan cheese and serve.

Banana chocolate popcorn dessert

Banana instant pudding gives popcorn a unique flavor. Add some walnuts, banana chips and chocolate and you have a dessert your kids will adore.

Melt some milk chocolate in the microwave and stir till smooth. Whisk a tablespoon of banana-flavored instant pudding mix into it. Now pour the mixture over the popcorn. Add some dried banana chips and chopped walnuts.

Stir gently with a spatula so the popcorn is fully coated. Spread the mixture onto a large piece of parchment paper and allow it to cool until the chocolate has hardened. This should take about 20 minutes. Break into pieces before putting in a bowl. You can store this popcorn in an airtight container for up to four days.
