The Video Diaries

So, I had promised some video diaries over the course of Comic-Con. Long story short, I failed in the tech department. (Note in the first video that I use the phrase HOPEFULLY this will be the first of many) My computer could not get internet at the convention center to save its life and my camera died on me (with no hope of an on-site revival). But now, back to a less-stressed environment, I can catch up on the promised.… Read More »

Flashpoint

Only in comics could the term ape-controlled be used as a legitimate form of description for military foreign policy. New post is underway, but here is a little teaser of what the summer holds for our friends at DC Comics with the summer event book, Flashpoint. But that is not the focus of what is coming up for Four Colors. We are going to be talking about a little book called Locke & Key, which, to speak like Chris Traeger, is literally… Read More »

WonderCon Tour

Hello faithful readers. The WonderCon write-up will be coming tomorrow, but until then, please enjoy this video I did for the Sonoma State STAR, the other publication that I write for at Sonoma State University, where I am currently finishing my studies. Enjoy and I will see you tomorrow!

Four Colors Rises

It seems that I have been wanting to talk about the current goings on of the mainstream over the past few days. This post will be the third on DC properties. I promise, we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programing in the near future. But I must speak on the third Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. The title alone is less than stellar in my opinion. It was fun from the first movie’s title to be Batman Begins… Read More »

Welcome to Season 2

Welcome to what I am calling “Season 2″ of Four Colors. I haven’t posted on the blog since July. Since Comic Con, I’ve been on radio silence and to be honest, I’ve kept it that way on purpose. I’ve needed to reflect and rethink what this blog means and what it should be about. As I was writing my experiences at Comic Con, it seemed like every news outlet that could was reporting every angle I could have used. Pretty… Read More »

Hundreds and Hundreds

This past year has been an important one for DC. Not only have they been publishing some great books, but the company has has several important anniversaries to celebrate. The first of which is their 75th anniversary of existence. DC has been publishing books for the past 75 years, a feat that is currently unequaled in the comic book industry. What else is unequaled are the three books that celebrated 700 and 600 issues. Those of course being the books… Read More »

American Splendor

Harvey Pekar died yesterday. He was 70. For the comic book world, this is a big blow. Pekar was one of the three people tied to the rise of underground comix in the 60s/70s. The other two are Art Spiegelman and R. Crumb. Though there were others, these three men were instrumental, in my opinion, as the people who made the movement legitimate and not merely about getting away with depicting things that could not be printed in mainstream books.… Read More »

Thaddeus K. Fong: Martyr for Truth

Readers of the blog may know that I am a huge fan of Gene Luen Yang. I’ve reviewed his previous two books released through :01 Second Publishing (American Born Chinese and The Eternal Smile) and now I have the chance to review his most recent book, “Prime Baby.” Thaddeus K. Fong is your typical first born child. He thinks the world revolves around him and for a while, it probably does. He lets this power go to his head and… Read More »

Coming Soon…

There is a lovely time ahead of us. Summer time is almost here and that means infinite free time (except for work). But there is no homework, no extra commitments. Nothing. And, as we enter summer, we enter a strong time for Four Colors. There will be quite a bit happening on the blog over the next few months, so make sure to keep the blog on your bookmarks. A preview of what is to come: Unwritten from Vertigo Prime… Read More »

Heroes Assemble!

In the interest of the reader, there are a lot of Wikipedia bios that are linked to this page to help understand all the characters mentioned. Hopefully, there will be lots of “OH! It’s that guy!” but I just wanted to make sure that no one is lost. Because trust me, it was a long road to this storyline. Maybe it started in 2004, with the fall of Nick Fury and his resignation from SHIELD. Maybe it started in 2006… Read More »
