More Man than Iron…

Iron Man poster

What does the world look like after “The Avengers?” In our world and Marvel’s, that is the question facing the characters in “Iron Man 3.” Following the huge success of Marvel’s “The Avengers,” how can these films return to their original, stand alone nature? Is that even possible? And, for Tony Stark, as the trailer suggests, even he isn’t sure how to continue after fighting an alien invasion alongside a god, a beast, and a legend. How do you deal… Read More »

Mr. Reece Goes to Comic-Con

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” John Lennon said that. He might not have ever attended Comic-Con, but Mr. Lennon may as well have been describing my time in San Diego when he said it. Every amazing thing that happened, happened without plans. But more on that later. San Diego Comic-Con 2011 was a whirlwind of comic-related insanity. On the outer edges of it, Hollywood peddled its wares. Shows like The Big Bang Theory,… Read More »

May 7th, 2010

Remember this date because it is when “Iron Man 2″ comes out. There is a great trend within the superhero genre and that is that the first sequel is always spectacular when compared to the original. “Superman” vs. “Superman 2.” “Batman Begins” vs. “The Dark Knight.” “X-Men” vs. “X2.” With all these movies, the sequel has surpassed the original in every way, thus the excitement for “Iron Man 2.” The first brought Robert Downey Jr. back to the public eye… Read More »

Captain America and Mickey Mouse

It seems that the battle lines are being drawn even deeper in the sand. In a move out of seemingly nowhere, Disney has acquired Marvel, pending board approval and antitrust review, for roughly $4 billion. The full story from Yahoo! News is HERE To me, this is rather ironic that Disney would buy Marvel, seeing as their rival, DC Comics, is owned by the animation rival of Disney, Time-Warner. So where Batman has Bugs Bunny to call upon, Spider-Man can… Read More »

Comic-Con Con

Comic-Con was this past weekend and I sadly was unable to attend. For those unaware, if comics were a religion, Comic-Con would be Mecca. It is by and large, the biggest comic book convention in the entire world and it just celebrated its 40th year. It is where comic book publishers reveal what is in store for the characters in the coming year. It is where writers and artists can share what they have coming up, either with the top… Read More »

Dr. Manhattan (or: how I learned to stop worrying and hate “Watchmen”)

The movie “Watchmen” came out yesterday and I can’t say that I am going to be buying it. On paper, it looks like the perfect fit for a comic book fan. The director is Zack Snyder, who did the successful “300″ a few years back, which was based on the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller. The actors are all top notch. The visuals look like they were drawn to perfection by the original artist, Dave Gibbons.… Read More »
